Elections

The City of Marfa holds annual elections to elect the Mayor and 5 City Council members. 
The Mayor serves a two-year term, and City Council members serve two-year staggered terms.

The next General Election will be held on
Saturday, May, 2, 2026.

Early Voting will be held:
April 20, 2026 through April 28, 2026
8am-5pm in the Casner Room @ City Hall

To apply for a place on the ballot, either pick up or print out a
Candidate Packet, fill it out and return it to City Hall by or
before 5:00pm on February 13, 2026. Candidate packets are
available in person at City Hall or at the bottom of this page:

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA:
According to Texas Election Code §141.001, to be eligible to run
for city council, an applicant must meet all of the following
criteria as of the date of filing:

• Be a U.S. citizen

• Be 18 years of age or older on the first day of term or date of appointment        (May 8, 2026)

• Reside within the State of Texas for at least 12 months

• Reside within the City of Marfa for at least 6 months immediately preceding the  applicant filing for office

• Registered to vote within the City of Marfa

• Have not been declared mentally incapacitated or partially mentally  incapacitated without the right to vote
• Have not been convicted of a felony from which the person has not been  pardoned or otherwise released from the resulting disabilities
