After the departure of the City Code Compliance Officer, the Marfa City Council voted to shift Code Enforcement responsibilities to the Marfa Police Department. Two MPD Officers have completed code enforcement training and will begin investigating code enforcement cases for the City of Marfa beginning on January 11, 2021.
The types of code enforcement cases that will initially be investigated within the city limits are as follows:
- Weeds And Debris
- Junked Vehicles
- Recreational Vehicle (RV) Issues, Including Unauthorized Parking And Residence
- Animal Permits, Including Large Animal Permits And Permits For Dogs And Cats
- Improper Use Of City Right-Of-Way
- Building Without A Permit
- Demolition Without A Permit
The Marfa Police Department follows a Community Policing Model and will work with citizens become compliant with City Ordinances/State Law. Anyone found in violation will receive a written warning. If the situation is remedied, no further action will be taken. If the violation is not found in compliance, a case will be filed with a fine punishable up to $2,000.
