Code Enforcement Ordinance Summaries
Below are summaries of selected City ordinances. Please note, these are only brief outlines and not the entire ordinance.
Weed and Debris
- Properties should be kept free from:
- Brush
- Earth & Construction Materials
- Garbage
- Junk
- Refuse
- Rubbish
- Solid Waste
- Trash
- Weeds
- Unwholesome/Unsightly/Unsanitary Matter
- The materials must be removed by the owner or the person in control of the property
- Weeds/uncultivated grasses can not be more than 12 inches high
- Native vegetation and ornamental grass may be over 12 inches with a Native Grasses Permit
- Even with a permit, grasses within 20 feet of a neighbor’s structure must be under 12 inches
Junked Vehicles
- Junked vehicles located where they are visible from a place or public right-of-way are detrimental to the safety and welfare of the public are not allowed
- These vehicles may remain on property if they are enclosed within a building
- No partially dismantled, non-operating, wrecked, or junked vehicles may be left on a City street
- Exceptions:
- Stored or parked in a lawful manner by a licensed vehicle dealer or junkyard
- Antique or special-interest vehicles with proper storage
RV Parking
- Types of vehicles and trailers covered by ordinance:
- Buses
- Motor homes
- Recreational vehicles
- Campers
- Any trailers with a carrying capacity over 1 ton or more than 18 feet in length, 7 feet in width, or 7 feet in height.
- Occupying, sleeping in, or inhabiting these vehicles at night ( 7 pm-7 am) on a public street, alley, or right-of-way is not allowed.
- Temporary parking for loading and unloaded is allowed
Storing & Parking Trailers/Rvs On Residental Lots
- No more than one trailer per family living on the premises
- The trailer can not exceed 24 feet in length, 8 feet in width
- It cannot be stored for more than 48 hours unless it is behind the front yard building line
- Camping/travel trailers cannot be occupied while parked unless it is in a trailer/RV park

Animals
- Requirement for keeping animals outside must be followed and can be found in the complete ordinance below
- Public Nuisances for animals include:
- Animals that cause excessive or incessant noise
- Keeping animals in a manner that is a health hazard
- Allowing animals to destroy other’s property
- Feeding feral cats
- Livestock requires an annual permit, and regulations in the ordinance must be followed
- Dogs and cats must be vaccinated
- Spaying and neutering is encouraged
- Cruelty to animals is not tolerated
- Cruelty includes:
- Physical abuse
- Neglect
- Cruelty by action or omission
- Wild and exotic animals are not allowed without a permit
- Tethering dogs is prohibited
- Animals must be confined to the premises of the owner within a fence or enclosure.
City Right-Of-Way
City right-of-way may be used during construction and demolition with prior approval from the City. The cost to use a City right-of-way is $150 upon the commencement of a project plus $5/day.
Construction & Demolition
No construction or demolition within City limits may begin without a permit from the City. Permits generally take 3-6 weeks to process.
